Fragments from the Reverse: Viru raba
Acrylic on canvas, 30 × 30 cm
This series emerged from prolonged encounters with Viru raba in Estonia, approached not as a landscape to be represented, but as an embodied experience of atmosphere, rhythm and material presence.
The works arise from a single process carried out over time. Large, expressive paintings serve as source material, from which fragments are later extracted from the reverse side. These fragments originate from different phases of the same process, carrying subtle shifts in tone, density and colour.
Each work functions as an autonomous image, quiet in presence and restrained in scale. Rather than depicting a place or emotion, the paintings attend to material memory and the tension between intention and accident, presence and absence.
